A bat used in the game of baseball is nothing but a smooth rod made out of metal or wood and is used to hit the ball thrown by the pitcher. Baseball bats are available in an array of sizes, models and options. However, all bats weigh no more than one kilo gram. In addition, the length of the bat is no more than 40 inches and the width being no more than 2.75 inches at its thickest part.
Here is a list with some of the common types of baseball bats:
- Aluminum bats – Aluminum bats were a popular option in the late nineties as the bats were extremely durable, and most importantly lightweight.
- Wooden bats – Wooden bats are the most common bats. Earlier, bats were generally crafted out of hickory, a heavy but durable wood type. However today, most of the bats are crafted out of white ash wood. White ash is a light material and therefore white ash bats are very lightweight.
- Bamboo bats – Bamboo bats are gaining extreme popularity. They are eco-friendly, durable and lightweight. However, they are yet to be recognized by the professional leagues.
